House Rules for Kenkun House

  • Please feel at home and care for Kenkun House as you would your own home. I have furnished the house with hand-crafted items to introduce guests to the wide range of arts and crafts that the city is famous for. I have furnished the house with hand-crafted items to introduce guests to the wide range of arts and crafts for which the city is famous.
  • Almost all neighborhoods are residential and very quiet. Please observe the cultural norms of speaking quietly on the street and when entering and leaving the house and when walking around. Complaints by neighbors may result in the cancellation of your stay.
  • Japanese do not wear shoes inside their homes even if the flooring is wooden. Please leave your shoes in the entrance and use slippers in the house.
  • The only thing that should go into the Japanese bath is you. (When using a Japanese bath, either here or in a public bath or spa, one sits outside the tub and washes lightly before entering the tub. After rinsing the soap off, you enter the tub. Wash again outside the tub and enter the tub again. No bubble bath or soap in the tub please.) It’s for soaking only.
  • No smoking in, around the house, nor in the garden. The Fire Department is very strict, as one can imagine in a city composed of wooden structures.
  • Please leave garbage and trash in the outside bin in the garden. I will collect it twice a week. Beverage bottles and cans can be disposed in containers next to beverage vending machines all over the city. In this neighborhood, the large EM supermarket on Kurama-guchi street west of Kenkun House, has an assortment of recycling bins.
  • Wet garbage goes into the yellow bags, plastic into the green and clear ones. Paper can be stacked in any plastic bag for recycling which I will collect.
  • No pets are allowed.
  • Only registered guests may stay. If a guest brings more people than were booked, the reservation will be canceled with no refund and immediate evacuation is required.
  • Guests are responsible for damage to the property and items within.
